The Giving Circle (based on The Funding Network, UK model) was introduced to the Bulgarian community foundations in the second half of 2012. It was readily embraced by them as an effective fundraising approach, because it creates a community of donors, who are interested in various philanthropic causes and looking for direct contact with organizations, seeking funding.

In the period November 2012 — December 2014, the community foundations in Bulgaria hosted 18 meetings of giving circles in total, organized in Burgas, Gabrovo, Ruse, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Varna and Yambol. The total amount raised by them was BGN 297,217, used for financing of 80 local projects. The giving circles attracted 789 new donors to the community foundations, and over 38% of them became regular donors.
